Richard Lincoln of BrassWind Boatworks is a biologist who retired from the food industry in 2006. He began following his dream of building custom wooden boats by taking boat building classes with Tim Fox of C Fox Wood Boats and C Fox Boat School in Kent City, Michigan. Richard focuses on building wood composite stitch and glue kayaks and skiffs or more commonly known as tape seam construction. Most recently he has built a CLC Mill Creek 13 Kayak and the Chesapeake Bay Lightcraft Passagemaker Dinghy pictured here. He is available for consulting and repairs on kayaks and canoes.

If you are on the West Michigan area you can arrange a visit to the C Fox Boat School and see about building a boat of your own. If you are in Northern Lower Michigan, or traveling that way, The BrassWind BoatWorks will be opening at its new location in Indian River, Michigan in the summer of 2011. The Lincoln's have purchased a building in Indian River and aptly named it BrassWind Landing. The new building will also be the home of Arts & Adventure Paddlesports offering kayak rentals and sales. The BrassWind Gallery and gift shop will be there as well along with Sheree Lincoln's Web Design business, BrassWind Designs.

Richard will continue to manufacture the beeswax lip balm he developed. His food science background at Gerber & Yoplait and his wife's addiction to lip balm led him to develop a beeswax and cocoa butter lip balm called Boulevard Kiss, "Like a windshield for the lips." You can read more about that at www.bestbeeslipbalm.com.
